An eyewear exposition was held from the eighth to the tenth of February in Milan to showcase this accessories innovative ideas. The term Eyewear includes sunglasses, contact lenses, sight glasses and frames. In addition, this show included gadgets and services related to this field
Eyewear industry
In fashion, this accessory has increasingly taken up an aesthetic role further than its substantial function. Nowadays, sunglasses are bought to compliment people’s garments and can sometimes be the ones to give spice to a look. Some people use sunglasses even when there is no sun just to be fashionable. Moreover, consumers do not want to simply have glasses that increase their sight but also some that look good on them as they need to use them on a daily basis.

Mido show
The Mido show is held yearly in the RHO Fiera Milan, where there are 1200 expositors from over 160 countries that take part in the entire productive chain. There are countless advantages to attending as an optician, store owner, brand owner, producer… as here you have the possibility to meet other organizations that you can partner with. The exposition areas were: fashion district, lenses, design, academy, FAiR EAST, tech and startups.

What is new this year
In 2025 more focus has been given to technological innovative ideas, such as the use of artificial intelligence.
The most relevant ideas have been: glasses that integrate acoustic devices (Naunce Audio), eyewear that assist mobility to blind people (iSee) and lenses that optimize color vision. New materials have also been presented such as memory materials that allow flexibility and acetate Eastman that is regenerative so more sustainable. This link between aesthetic and environmental responsibility has been a trendy topic this year.
finally, a diversification of fields in which the glasses can be worn was shown in Mido with new adaptations for sports, kids and work.

Awards
Every year different awards are handed to the participants, this year, the best store design was given to ZIEN & HOREN FRITS VAN DEN BOSCH for it’s 900 square meters building in Belgium with a luxury department, bar, kids space, visual and audition section and a pop-up that changes yearly. Instead, the best store design was given to OTTICA PADRIN for it’s use of AI, sustainable practices and a personalized experience for the clients.
The CSE award that is based on sustainability was given to; boss for it’s recycled materials; Karl Lagerfeld for sustainable material research and functionality; Rolf for the 3D printing; HIBANG for the recycled mono material; MOKKI CLICKS for the recycled case and Nike cases because of the effort to generate a positive impact on stakeholders.

The Stand Up for green award was given to Silouhette International for the simple use of reusable materials with zero waste made mostly out of card board.

To conclude, the Sergio Cereda Design Award was given to AURA due to the innovative design.
