Five themed dinner parties, Christmas edition

With the rise of creators such as Nara Smith, that initially used her platform to showcase her skills in doing everything from scratch, artisan spirit is at an all time high. So when would it be a better time to put yourselves to the test if not Christmas? Let us inspire you with 5 themed dinner parties to organise this holiday season.

White Christmas

What party would it be if not one celebrating the idea of snow? Even though it has been years since it has regularly snowed during winter in certain parts of the world, a white Christmas dinner party will always do the trick. It means white decorations, white outfits and maybe even some fake snow to keep you entertained.

For a quick bite, a pre-dinner snack can be a platter of brie, gorgonzola, even some toasted bread with tomatoes and stracciatella on top. The main course can vary from chicken breast in parmesan sauce to spaghetti cacio e pepe. If you are brave enough, the sky is the limit! Deserts are everyone’s favourite part. An easy fix could be buying a sheet of pastry from the supermarket and making some vanilla cream stuffed puff-pastries. This will certainly cater to everyone.

In terms of drinks, you can never go wrong with just white wine or an eggnog martini. But for the people that want to be the sober friend, a white hot chocolate can warm their hearts.

The Nutcracker

Taking inspiration from the iconic ballet, set on Christmas Eve, and the multiple movie adaptations, a nutcracker themed dinner party is a must! You can start from decorating the house in red and gold tones, from the tree to the kitchen wear. Because what else says nutcracker than these colours?

A fun activity that you and your friends can try is making gingerbread houses. You can even turn it into a competition and give awards in the end that span from sweets (celebrating the original story) to any treat of your liking. But beware of becoming way too competitive! Afterall, holidays should be a joyful time.

The signature cocktail for this kind of party has to be an espresso martini that you can spice with ginger. It is a twist to the classic beverage. For a mocktail version, you can just loose the alcohol. Or opt for a Coca-Cola alternative.

Coquette

A trend this year has been the coquette aesthetic. That means that everything that can have a bow attached to it, will get one. It also heavily leans on the colour pink. So by decorating everything in shades of pink and adding as many bows to all of the branches of the tree you should be good. On the food side, rhubarb ravioli filled with cream cheese and strawberries covered in chocolate should just do the trick.

For this Christmas dinner, a fun activity could be making vision boards for 2025 with your friends. A vision board is a sheet of paper, a desktop wallpaper or anything of that sort that looks like a collage of your goals for the upcoming year. It’s a fun way to get creative and stay entertained.

The beverages of choice can be a pink gin and tonic or the iconic strawberry daiquiri for a sweeter alternative. If you are leaning into the non-alcoholic side, you can easily opt for a strawberry lemonade or white hot chocolate coloured pink.

The 2000s

Is anyone feeling nostalgic? Does anyone miss the feeling of Christmas as a kid? Well, this dinner party could be for you. Gathering with all of your friends in an apartment decorated that makes you feel as if you were transported in the early 2000s. Bringing back the cosy vibes, with colourful decorations, ugly sweaters and old musical classics.

Dinner, as the meal in itself, might be the least focal point of such a party. Any kind of food that resembles the one you used to eat as a kid could pass. Every guest could bring their own so that everyone gets a taste of the others’ specific past. Imagine having dinner with the old Rocking Around the Christmas Tree playing.

A nonsense Christmas

This one is a bit unconventional. But what if instead of a dinner with your friends you would recreate the morning of Christmas. Gathering on the 24th at night but acting as if it was the next day. You would have breakfast instead of dinner, you would open presents and you would be dressed up in funny onesies.

For the presents part, you can even get involved in a game of white elephant. It means that everyone wraps the gift in a way that doesn’t have anything to do with the actual content of the present. It’s a fun thing that you can do with your friends to animate the evening.

No matter the theme, the most important thing during the holidays is to surround yourself with good company. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
